The Children’s Storefront will have a table at the New Bloor Festival, which runs between Dufferin and Lansdowne on July 24th.
We hope to meet lots of new families.  We will be giving away balloons. Fundraising activities will include:  selling stress balls and our stroller stickers and creating airbrush tattoos.
We need volunteers to give us a hand at the booth in three shifts:   Noon to 2, 2pm to 4pm, 4pm to 6pm.  The early crew will set up and the last crew will clear away.  The festival runs until 9pm but we feel 6pm is late enough for us and most people with small children.
Please let us know if you can volunteer.

David Slater, BFA, RMT, Osteopathy (ABD), offers a special children’s day for osteopathic assessment and treatment on the last Monday of each month, for children aged newborn to 12 years old.  An excellent opportunity to access Osteopathy, a very sophisticated, informed and gentle form of manual therapy and assessment for well-being, alignment, and the treatment of every-day or elusive symptoms.

As of January 2010, Kid’s Day will be an ongoing fundraiser for the Children’s Storefront Rebuilding Foundation.  As 100% of the proceeds from Kid’s Day will be donated to the Children’s Storefront, payment for treatment can be made directly to their charitable foundation and a tax receipt can be provided for donations over $20.

The service provided is valued at $75 per treatment, however, a pay-as-you-can honour policy is in place so that it is left up to whomever books the appointment to make the contribution directly to the Children’s Storefront at www.childrensstorefront.com.  Please state your donation is on behalf of Annex Osteopathy Kid’s Day.  Booking a spot for the day will remain on a first-come first-served basis.

DIY Defies Gravity
Toronto Life Magazine awarded last winter’s wildly popular tribute to the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) spirit, Totsapalooza, with number 14 on their 2009 list of “50 Reasons To Love Toronto”. Fasten your seatbelts, celestial explorers! For this year’s Totsapalooza: The Space Age Rodeo Edition, we’ve put together another amazing lineup of leading indie rockers, children’s authors and inventive crafts to celebrate how the DIY ethos defies gravity. Don Kerr & The Jet Pack Orchestra will beam the party into another galaxy with the help of Bellwoods Trinity, I Eat Kids and Sho, Mo & The Monkey Bunch. Also on the bill is Katie Van Camp, who will perform her award-winning tale, Harry & Horsie, (Harper Collins), Ashley Spires will present her stellar feline, Binky The Space Cat (Kids Can) and Chris A. Rutkowski’s going to open your eyes with his I Saw It Too: Real UFO Sightings (Dundurn). Kids will build flying saucers and musical instruments out of recycled materials. We’ll send the UFOs into orbit by attaching them to helium balloons. And, of course, there will be an intergalactic jam session featuring budding rockers and indie veterans! Presented by Small Print, The Little Paper and Rooster Studio, (AKA The Tot Squad) with BookShorts Literacy Program and Torontoist.com.
The Revival, 783 College St (At Shaw)
Sun Feb 21; 2pm (Doors 1:30pm)

 ——-

We are living with pressures, stresses and excessive stimulus that our nervous systems were not necessarily designed to manage, potentially living in a low-grade and chronic state of “fight or flight,” or the stress response.

In these Deep Restoration workshops, you will learn techniques inspired by the Yoga and Mindfulness traditions to self-soothe, pacify your nervous system, unwind muscle tension, relax and quiet your mind. This workshop can simply be enjoyed as a one-time relaxation experience, or if so inspired, the tools can be immediately employed as antidotes to stress, and with ongoing practice can become lifelong companions.

We will move slowly and gently through relaxing Restorative Yoga positions, completely supported by a variety of props (bolsters, pillows, blankets, chairs, etc.), simple breathing, and guided relaxation.
Absolutely no experience with either yoga or mindfulness is necessary. Really. This workshop is not
about flexibility nor fitness, it is about spending some time slowing down & actively relaxing.
Tiina Veer, RMT is a local massage therapist and yoga instructor. Tiina is passionate about teaching simple practices from the yoga and mindfulness traditions in a supportive and non-competitive environment. She has a down-to-earth, non-dogmatic approach to teaching these intelligent and useful tools in a way that is relevant to everyday life and approachable even to those who have never tried them before.

From David Slater on behalf of Annex Osteopathy:

Happy New Year
I hope you had a restful Holiday and wish you and your families the best of health for 2010 and beyond.
It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the January Kid’s Osteopathy Day (January 25) at Annex Osteopathy.
This year the Annex Osteopathy Kid’s Day will be a fundraiser for the Children’s Storefront Rebuilding Foundation. To those of you who do not know, The Children’s Storefront is one of the miracles of the City of Toronto which was founded by Ryva Novick and Maryann Schwartz, to provide a free drop in centre that has served the parents, children and caregivers in this neighbourhood for the past 30 years.
An unfortunate fire in the building burned the structure and all of it’s contents to the ground and has left the centre looking for a home and equipment.
As 100% of the proceeds from Kid’s Day will be donated to the Children’s Storefront, payment for treatment can be made directly to the Children’s storefront and a tax receipt will be provided.
The Service provided is valued at $75 per treatment, however a pay as you can honour policy will be implemented so that I will leave it up to you to make the contribution directly to the Children’s Storefront at www.childrensstorefront.com and a contribution in the amount of $20 or more will enable you to receive a tax receipt. Please state that your donation is on behalf of the Annex Osteopathy Kid’s Day
Booking a spot for the day will remain on a first come first serve basis. Treatments are scheduled on Monday, January 25th between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Thank you kindly.

A mom and step mom in real life, Scheffler exposes the truth of motherhood in an authentic and hilarious way! A modern Irma Bombeck! She’ll make you feel good about your parenting skills!
